Pace Library's Collection Development Policy

The Head of Library Collections establishes overall collection goals and policies reflective of institutional priorities and includes feedback and suggestions from all library departments. Heads of Research and Circulation Services, with input from the Library Directors at each campus library, allocate the local collection development budget to support their specific communities. Working collaboratively with the Heads of Research and Circulation Services, librarians are given selection responsibilities within their disciplines.

While librarians share joint responsibility for collections, coordination roles help align campus priorities. Librarians are given autonomy over selections within their disciplines while adhering to institutional policies and budget restrictions. The Heads of Research and Circulation Services at each campus guide selectors to ensure coordinated development that furthers the library’s mission.

The purpose of having a resource selection strategy is:

  • To provide an excellent user experience
  • To facilitate the big-picture design of the collections with input from all stakeholders
  • To proactively engage with students and faculty to fully understand evolving user needs and how collections can support learning, teaching, and research at Pace
