Pace Library's Collection Development Policy

The library also purchases leisure reading materials that aim to foster recreational reading by providing access to popular contemporary fiction and nonfiction across various genres. While the primary mission centers on supporting the university's academic curricula, we acknowledge the intellectual and cultural enrichment derived from leisure reading. As such, each librarian can use a small portion of their acquisition budget to procure titles for recreational readership. The scope encompasses mystery, romance, science fiction/fantasy, self-help/psychology, biography, business, history, science literature, and other genres. Selection criteria include circulation statistics, faculty and student requests, and diversity of authorship and perspectives.

In curating the leisure reading collection, an emphasis is placed on acquiring works that engage diverse viewpoints and narratives pertinent to current societal discourse and topics of interest. Through regular evaluations of emerging trends and evolving literary tastes, the collection remains dynamically responsive. This approach ensures that leisure reading materials stimulate intellectual curiosity while affording students a reprieve from the rigor of academic study. The overarching goal is to cultivate an environment conducive to holistic learning and personal growth through the power of literature.
